A Holiday & Benefit concert featuring Charmagne Tripp
Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 7:30 PM (EST)
Join us for a night of holiday cheer as Smooth R&B and Jazz Vocalist Charmagne Tripp performs seasonal favorites to benefit The Malaga 1912 Scholarship fund.
“In 1912, a mixed-race community of about forty-five people were evicted by the state of Maine from Malaga Island, just off the coast of Phippsburg. It was an act motivated by economics, racism, eugenics, and political retribution.”
Hartford native Charmagne is a direct decendant of Malaga Island, ME. Her great grandmother and family were among those forcibly evicted from their home on the island by the state. 100 years later the Decendants of Malaga Island along with the state of Maine have created a scholarship fund to give back to the families for their losses.
